Goten can already transform into a Super Saiyan when he trains with Gohan for the junior martial arts tournament. His resemblance to young Goku is striking, but his childhood unfolds among an established community of extraordinarily powerful fighters.
With Trunks, he learns Fusion and becomes one half of Gotenks. The fused warrior’s Super Saiyan 3 is not evidence that either boy can individually use that form. Their later teenage adventures appear in the SUPER HERO period of the Super manga.
